Hello! My name is Lauren Carll, and I am a senior public relations major at Kent State University. I came to Kent as an interior design major, but I decided it would be more of a hobby than a profession. So I took a career workshop class, found my strongest match was public relations, and the rest is history.

I don’t think I really understood what public relations was that day in class, but I was ready and willing to give it a shot. Here I am three years later, and I’m proud to say I’ve made it this far.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved writing and loved fashion – I guess it’s safe to say the two are my life-long passions. I was beyond excited when I was chosen to be a fashion reporter for the Daily Kent Stater  last spring. I was able to explore my creativity as a writer while covering fashion shows, fashion organization events and class projects. But I think I knew I wanted a career in fashion PR after I interviewed a KSU fashion design student who has worked as a volunteer for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City for the past three years.  His excitement and enthusiasm for the fashion industry was contagious, and I realized one day, I needed to be a part of it. So, it’s only natural I chose a fashion focus for this blog.

Involvement at KSU

I’ve been pretty good at keeping busy during my three years of college. Since fall of my freshman year, I have been an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and I have had three leadership positions within the chapter. I was also Hall Council secretary and a freshman orientation instructor. I am currently an active member of PRSSA Kent.

Quote: “The important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that every day won’t be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair, remember it’s only in the black of night you can see the stars, and those stars will lead you back home. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble, to fall, because most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you’ll get everything you wish for. Maybe you’ll get more than you ever could have imagined. Who knows where life will take you. The road is long, and in the end, the journey is the destination.” – One Tree Hill
